1 Peter 1:3-5 (ESV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Hope: a word that brings to surface many thoughts and emotions. As a child, I would hope for a new pony, or that I was chosen for the pom pom squad. My hope was in temporal things. Sometimes I would hope that the unpleasant consequences for my poor choices would simply disappear, or that I would simply disappear and not have to deal with emotional pain anymore.
There is a beautiful statuesque tree that H and I pass everyday. The limbs have the perfect shape; each tip reaching up towards the blue sky. I love that tree! The first time I noticed the tree, it appeared dead everywhere except for one green leaf at the very top.
Hope is like that one leaf. It is what keeps us going and doesn’t allow us to cave under the stresses and pressures of life. This living hope is a certainty, a confidence in our salvation through Jesus Christ. This hope doesn’t fade away like my childhood hopes mentioned above.
Many people are struggling with all sorts of things; lost jobs, addiction, crumbling marriages, terminal or chronic illnesses, and self-image. It is easy to lose hope when faced with such monumental issues. But every day you have breath is a new day to have hope. Do not give up, give your worries and stresses over to God. Have hope!
Until Next Time,
